2,200 Pounds of Salt...

Artist Motoi Yamamoto uses Salt to create epic and maddeningly intricate labyrinth style floor murals; the above pictured, made with 2,200 pounds of salt over the course of five days.

He works by by sprinkling salt on the floor through a plastic bottle used for machine oil, starting at the back then moving forward to avoid stepping on the designs he's already drawn. The inspiration for this work originally spawned from the loss of his sister and his want to honor her memory. The labyrinthine patterns are meant to convey a sense of eternity and  Salt is a traditional Japanese symbol for purification and mourning.
